Textured walls

Product Application

Written by Koos Vermeulen - Before applying paint to any surface, ensure that the surface is clean (no oily residue) and dust free. If no damage does exist wash surface with liquid soap and water. Allow 4 hours to dry completely.

Exterior textured walls

Wrap newspaper around gutter downpipes and other difficult to paint under areas to avoid paint coming into contact with those areas. Use a 100mm brush and paint along all edges, under roof, around window frames and under gutters and other areas.

Equipment

Brushes: You do not need special equipment to paint interior walls and ceilings. If you want to paint with only a brush, you would require 2 brushes - a narrow (for finishing corners and finishing) and a wider brush (for the painting of the larger area).

Rollers: It is easier to cover larger areas with a roller, but you will still require a narrow brush to do the finishing with. New imitation wool rollers should be soaked in soap water for 2 - 3 hours to remove all loose hairs. Roll dry against an outer wall before use.

Other items: Pan for the roller. A ladder or other sturdy piece of equipment to stand on to reach the higher spots or the ceiling.

Method

For new texture walls - Use a handbrush or softhaired floorbrush to apply the paint (after edging has been done)

Paint brick walls with heavily ladened longhaired brush

You can also use a longhaired roller to apply a thicker coat of paint. To achieve a textured finish use a textured brush.
