Product Application
Before applying paint to any surface, ensure that the surface is
clean (no oily residue) and dust free. If no damage does exist wash
surface with liquid soap and water. Allow 4 hours to dry completely.
Ceilings
Paint sequence
1 & 2. Paint the ceiling in strips of 1 (one) meter.
3. Paint around the light with a brush.
4. Fill in the strips. If you are right handed, work from right
to left. If you are left handed, work from left to right.
Equipment
Brushes: You do not need special equipment to
paint interior walls and ceilings. If you want to paint with only
a brush, you would require 2 brushes - a narrow (for finishing corners
and finishing) and a wider brush (for the painting of the larger
area).
Rollers: It is easier to cover larger areas with
a roller, but you will still require a narrow brush to do the finishing
with. New imitation wool rollers should be soaked in soap water
for 2 - 3 hours to remove all loose hairs. Roll dry against an outer
wall before use.
Other items: Pan for the roller. A ladder or other
sturdy piece of equipment to stand on to reach the higher spots
or the ceiling.
Before you paint:Cover the entire floor with
newspapers or plastic. All items in the room should be covered,
to avoid spillage onto them.
If it is at all possible all painting should be done in
daylight. In artificial light you cannot always see exactly
what you are doing, and could miss spots. Always paint from
top to bottom, the ceilings should thus
be painted before the walls.
Method
Use
a brush to paint a 50mm strip along the ceiling where it meets the
wall. Using a roller for this application would not work, as the
roller cannot reach the corners.
Pour
some paint into a rollertray. DO NOT pour in too much,
as this would cause the roller to be overladen and create spillage.
Clean wall thoroughly, remove all loose particles. Paint wall on
both sides with 2 coats Distemper Neutraliser. Apply final coat
of your choice.
Dip
the roller in the paint and roll it back, making sure that excess
paint is removed from the roller.
Paint
a strip covering the corner strip that was painted with the brush.
Paint a second strip, a bit narrower than the roller next to the
first strip.
Cover
the gap that step 4 left. Finish by working over both strips.
Paint
the next strip, and then cover the gap (repeating steps 4 and 5).
Repeat until the whole ceiling has been covered.
